Tal Marciano
is a young photography student attending Shenkar College in Israel. She’s a Visual Communications student, so the roads before her are many. But at the moment, she is just armed with the exceptional Olympus Stylus MJU II, one of the sharpest point and shoots around. For now, her head is in her schoolwork. And the sometimes sad, and sometimes joyousness,…(but always the beauty), of her surroundings.
While there is nothing particularly blatantly political about her work, her images reflect the tender, soft and sad moments in life. She mostly shoots outdoors, using nature to emphasize how lonely we really are, irrespective of location or personal situations,… and the beauty of it all. She tends to exclusively shoot with Kodak Color Plus film, finding it has the right balance between color and grain in natural light settings.
Kodak Color Plus is a funny film in that it seems to be very sensitive to differing exposures. But it’s exactly those happy accidents which make it an “exciting” film to employ. More light, lots of color saturation,… less light and you’ll find under saturated colors, with very soft and organic grain.
Marciano at 25 is probably not even a millennial,….is that the new “Z” generation? Either way, she’s off to an auspicious start, and it’s this point at which she’ll see the world from a new perspective. Her dreamy and romantic vision may be just a jumping off point in her artistic journey. But we are all waiting to see what develops. Most impressive is how far she’s come using just the Olympus MJU II. And she’ll probably be one of the few world experts in Kodak Plus. (hard to get in the US/Canada) However, it is popular in Italy, Spain, Israel, etc. See more of her work at her Instagram link below.
